SPECIALISTS

WHO WE ARE —

We turn yards into
landscapes that produce.

Most yards in Orange County and South LA sit underused - decorated but not productive. Shizen exists for homeowners who want something more: a landscape that grows food your family actually eats.

Tora Ward, our lead specialist, holds a degree in Sustainable Agriculture from UC Davis with a focus on fruit trees. Every service is built on that expertise - not guesswork, not generic landscaping, but genuine horticultural knowledge applied to your specific property and soil.

  • Fruit tree planting, pruning, and long-term care

  • Raised garden beds and edible landscape design

  • Soil testing and amendment - lab-backed, not guesswork

  • Irrigation setup and water efficiency for SoCal conditions

  • Hands-on gardening education so you understand your own property, not just have someone manage it

WHAT WE DO —

Specialist care for every part of your
edible landscape.

Every service is designed for Southern California's unique growing conditions - the heat, the soil, the water. We don't offer cookie-cutter care.

Fruit Tree Care

Expert fruit tree care focused on long-term health, balanced growth, and reliable harvests. From pruning to seasonal maintenance, we care for your trees so they thrive. Your tree should produce - we make sure it does.

Garden Beds & Edible Design

Shizen designs, builds, and maintains vegetable gardens. From seasonal planting to ongoing care, we create gardens that produce reliably and fit seamlessly into your landscape.

Shizen Full Service

Complete ongoing care for your entire edible landscape - trees, beds, irrigation, and everything in between. Available for a maximum of 5 clients at a time.

Ongoing Education

Most landscapers leave when the visit ends. We don't. Done With You visits are dedicated teaching sessions where we work alongside you - showing you how to care for, prune, and harvest your plants so you can feel confident without taking on the full workload.

START HERE —

Not sure where to begin? Start with an assessment.

Before any project or ongoing care, we come to your property, assess what's there, and tell you exactly what your landscape needs. The $150 fee credits to your first invoice.

For homeowners with citrus, stone fruit, avocado, or any fruit tree that isn't performing the way it should. We come out, assess the tree, test the soil, and give you a written plan - so you know exactly what's wrong and what to do about it.

  • Full property and tree assessment and structural diagnosis

  • Professional soil collection and lab test

  • Written recommendations within 24 hours

  • Pest and disease identification if present

  • What your landscape could realistically grow

THE PROCESS —

From first visit to a yard that produces.

Every Shizen relationship starts with understanding your property - not pitching you a service.

01

Book an Assessment

Start with a Shizen Assessment ($150). We come to your property, walk every inch of it, collect a soil sample, and look at what's actually happening — not what we assume is happening. You receive a written report within 24 hours.

02

We Build Your Plan

Based on the assessment and lab results, we propose a service that fits your property and goals. No upsells, no unnecessary work. Your $150 credits to the first invoice - the assessment effectively pays for itself the moment you move forward.

03

We Get to Work

Whether it's a one-time fruit tree visit, a raised bed installation, or the start of an ongoing relationship, Tora does the work himself - or supervises it directly. You always know exactly what was done, why, and what to watch for next.

04

Your Landscape Grows With You

Most of our clients start with a project and transition to Full Service as they see results. We keep the client roster deliberately small - a maximum of five Full Service clients at any time - so every property gets the attention it deserves.

You know exactly what you're getting.

Every Shizen service comes with a documented visit record and a set of commitments that no general landscaper can make - because they're rooted in specialist knowledge.

The Shizen Visit Record

A written summary of everything found and done, delivered within 24 hours of every visit. All tiers. If you don't receive it, the visit is free.

The Shizen 48-Hour Promise

Standard and Full Service clients receive one priority emergency visit per season within 48 hours of reporting a plant health concern - no extra charge.

The Shizen Soil Health Promise

We define the optimal soil standard for your specific trees and landscape. We work until we get there - and maintain it, with lab documentation showing progress over time.

6-Month Plant Survival Guarantee

Any plant Shizen installs that doesn't survive its first six months - when care guidance is followed - is replaced at no charge.
